The Wish Tree Remembers

by Denise Roca
Every newborn carried two heartbeats. One beat here; the other echoed through Sylvaris, a hidden world reached during the last blink before sleep. Lumivara soared above floating gardens, their stardust wings painting the sky with forgotten dreams, while giggling goblins accidentally cast Ticklewhisk, sending rainbow frogs bouncing from dragons’ noses. Only Lexie wandered those glowing paths. When grandfather forgot her name, the Mnemora, guardian of lost memories, guided every creature beneath the ancient Wish Tree. They whispered Hugglebubble through glowing leaves. He reached for her hand. β€œLexie,” he whispered. Dawn erased Sylvaris, but not the memory or smile they shared.
