Three Seconds Behind

by Kayla Halsey
The subway arrived exactly on time, humming softly beneath the neon skyline. People stepped out half-asleep, coffee steaming in silver cups, advertisements flickering across the tunnel walls. Mara checked her reflection in the train window and froze. Everyone behind her had reflections too. Just… delayed. A man scratched his nose. His reflection copied him three seconds later. Across the car, a child waved at her own reflection before it moved. Nobody else seemed to notice when the train passed Earth, hanging enormous and blue outside the tunnel glass.
